Well summer memories are fading fast. Not that I can remember many hot days. Winter does have its advantages and at Carillon Radio we are ready to start the new training schedule. Opportunities to become a broadcaster so whether it be as a hobby or just a springboard for pastures new why not try out volunteering with us.

24 Sept 2008 - After the Celebrations

The HERMITAGE FM project and the building of the brand new station for North West Leicestershire has started. If you keep an eye on these pages and on our Hermitage website we will keep you up to date with all developments. As you probably know in the community radio rules stations cannot use advertising and sponsorship to totally run their station so we at Hermitage are about to unveil our business plans for our new community project. As we speak we are awaiting approval from the local authorities and an update will be posted here soon. Now is a good time to call us and join in on the fun and the work. Community Radio for North West Leicestershire who would have thought that would happen 10 years ago?

4 Jun 2008 - Thirty Six Years of Broadcasting
Carillon Radio started broadcasting to the hospitals 36 years ago. Almost a working lifetime. There have been highs and lows but generally the Carillon story is one of a great success. My time in CR has been very satisfying and my notes of the last 8 years tell some interesting tales. Altogether it really shows what a group of dedicated volunteers can do. We have maintained a 24/7 service raised the funds to operate and also build one "up to date" state of the art station.

Heres a big question. Why did we not record the history from day one? If you the reader can provide some background especially from 1972 we would love to hear from you. We do know it all started in the old Baxtergate Hospital in Loughborough and was a service provided by the students of Ratcliffe College. They used to have a record player on a trolley and a pile of records and went from bed to bed playing requests. From a small beginning "Acorns and all that".
